DIRECTING

 

Directing is the act of motivating, directing and informing people in the same organization to achieve specific goals. Whereas organizing engages in the preparation of procedures, directing energizes the organization and initiates the transformation of plans into action. As such, directing can be called management in action because the transformation into action begins now. The purpose of direction is to protect the interests of the organization by coordinating the organized efforts of subordinates.

Instruction function can be divided into two parts –

(a) Giving orders to subordinate employees by superior authority.

(b) Providing leadership and motivation to subordinates.


In such a case it can be said that there are four elements of instruction -

Motivating, Informing, Monitoring, and Leading. There will be only one head and one plan for similar or group work - this theory is called - Unity of Direction.
